Nominations for the 2023 SP Sports Awards (SPSA) are now open.
The SP Sports Awards is the nation’s biggest and only award ceremony that recognizes the sporting achievements of PNG’s top elite athletes.
This year’s theme is “Make A Difference. Stop the Violence” which aims to raise awareness of sporting violence on the part of both participants and spectators.
“Sports unites people and inspires a nation to win,” says SP Brewery Corporate Affairs Manager John Nilkare.
“However, the increase in sporting violence is becoming a concern. Violence on the playing field sets a bad example for impressionable young Papua New Guineans. Unruly crowd behaviour can spoil a pleasant family outing.” He added.
Nilkare also announced that nominations can be submitted online via the online nomination form and encouraged everyone to send in their nominations for the following categories:

PNGOC President Sir Dawanicura in his address highlighted major sporting events in 2022 both internationally and nationally.
“We are anticipating a lot of nominations this year. Nomination is open to everyone including national sporting associations, individual sportsmen and women, coaches, administrators, clubs, sports officials, the media, and the public for any of the categories.
Everyone is welcome to nominate.” says Sir John.
This year’s awards night will be held on Saturday, May 27th at the Crowne Hotel. It will be a sit-down event and will be live streamed on social media.
